    To Veto Earmarks?

In his SOTU speech President Obama said that both parties should know that if Congress sends a bill containing earmarks, he would veto it. Democratic Senator Reid said that President Obama’s statement was merely an applause line and would not save any money.

Do you think Senator Reid is right? Do you think President Obama should veto any bill with earmarks in it? Do you think there is any significance to Senator Reid contradicting the President at this particular juncture?

I was always against any earmarks, but i see the need to want to get something for your district, but it comes down to what is it for? I may agree if they aren't for silly or inane projects, like the bridge to nowhere. I was a little surprised that Reid was so adamant about it. I'm on the fence right now and not sure which i really stand for. I do think that Obama will veto. It was rather surprising that Reid came out, like you mentioned, at this juncture. He should be standing with the President, but he also wants re-elected the next time around, that's my guess.
