90+ Yemeni Soldiers Killed in Al Qaeda Suicide Attack

    newser.com/story/146409/yemens-capital-hit-with-deadliest-attack-in-months.html

A suicide bombing targeting the Yemeni military killed more than 90 people today, and injured another 222, a government official announced. Reportedly dressed as a soldier, the attacker set off the blast near the presidential palace in Sanaa as troops trained for a military parade. An al-Qaeda source tells the BBC that one of its members was responsible. BBC correspondent Frank Gardener calls it "a significant step-up in the country's troubles," noting that despite unrest in the south, Yemen's capital "has been relatively quiet" since President Ali Abdullah Saleh gave up power.

Separately, a US military instructor was seriously wounded after being shot by Islamist militants yesterday, Reuters reports. The group Ansar al-Sharia—or Partisans of Islamic Law—claimed responsibility for the attack. Fighting this weekend near Jaar, a town controlled by the group, killed some 33 militants and 19 soldiers.

I think this an astounding amount of people to be killed by one suicide bomber. I guess the lesson is don't try to have a parade. The country is just too much of a hive of Al Qaeda activity and there's not enough stability and security there.

I love reading the news periodically of drones obliterating the terrorists though.

"When I entered Republican politics during an earlier period of malaise, in the late seventies and early eighties, the movement got most of the big questions -- crime, inflation, the Cold War -- right. This time, the party is getting the big questions disastrously wrong."

"In the aftershock of 2008, large numbers of Americans feel exploited and abused. Rather than workable solutions, my party is offering low taxes for the currently rich and high spending for the currently old, to be followed by who-knows-what and who-the-hell-cares. This isn't conservatism; it's a going-out-of-business sale for the baby-boom generation."

"This is just ridiculous. I never thought as an economist I would have to spend so much time doing political analysis."
