    Question Why a Dump?

The dump is maintained for three reasons:

    (1) To allow the forum staff to retaliate against members who launch personal attacks on the forum staff. The dump allows forum staff to launch reprisals, while simultaneously separating those reprisals from the rest of the thread, thus not disturbing the vast majority of the forum.

    (2) To shield the forum staff from predictable dishonest claims from banned/disciplined members that their comments were taken out of context/tampered with/destroyed/distorted.

    (3) To show the kinds of comments that get people in trouble. Most thread titles in the dump are the comment that got a member in trouble.

The Dump has different areas of dumping grounds:

    * The Flagrant Insults Thread/ Cowards' Hall of Shame contains violations that are so flagrant that they don't need to be pointed out, flagrant violations go right into it.
    * The banned member posts are comments made by banned members that just waste space on the rest of the forum and thus are dumped here. The rest of the threads in The Dump are less flagrant violations where the violations are more clearly pointed out.
    * The Members Leaving the Forum thread is an aggregation of people's comments saying they are leaving the forum

"When I entered Republican politics during an earlier period of malaise, in the late seventies and early eighties, the movement got most of the big questions -- crime, inflation, the Cold War -- right. This time, the party is getting the big questions disastrously wrong."

"In the aftershock of 2008, large numbers of Americans feel exploited and abused. Rather than workable solutions, my party is offering low taxes for the currently rich and high spending for the currently old, to be followed by who-knows-what and who-the-hell-cares. This isn't conservatism; it's a going-out-of-business sale for the baby-boom generation."

"This is just ridiculous. I never thought as an economist I would have to spend so much time doing political analysis."

    - Diane Swonk, chief economist at Mesirow Financial
