Post Log of Changes in the Forum Rules

The following is a log of any changes I make to the forum rules. Generally, the rules will always be the same: Criticize the argument, not the person making the argument. The rules that do change are generally minor and consist of changes in semantics to make the rules easier and quicker to be understood.

Any major changes will be accompanied by a site-wide announcement.

    11/21/2010

Semantic changes in the forum rules to make them clearer, more explanation on criticizing arguments

    11/23/2010

Provided forum staff with the ability to reciprocate rude remarks in the Rules Violation Dump
Added section describing the Rules Violation Dump
Vastly simplified the wording of the forum rules

    11/24/2010

Further simplified the wording of the forum rules
    Added this section:

    * Changes in the wording of the forum rules may be made from time to time to either make them easier to understand or to incorporate improvements. Major changes will generally be accompanied by a forum-wide announcement, minor changes will not. A log of changes to forum rules are also publicly maintained.

    11/25/2010

Added a rule on reporting posts.

    11/26/2010

Added the following: "Threatening to injure any democratically elected politician is not allowed, nor is wishing for their injury or demise."

Changed the titles of the threads in the dump to quote the comment that caused the post to be dumped.

A thread with a copy of the forum rules of 11/25/2010 has been created here.

"When I entered Republican politics during an earlier period of malaise, in the late seventies and early eighties, the movement got most of the big questions -- crime, inflation, the Cold War -- right. This time, the party is getting the big questions disastrously wrong."

"In the aftershock of 2008, large numbers of Americans feel exploited and abused. Rather than workable solutions, my party is offering low taxes for the currently rich and high spending for the currently old, to be followed by who-knows-what and who-the-hell-cares. This isn't conservatism; it's a going-out-of-business sale for the baby-boom generation."

    - David Frum, former speech writer for George W. Bush

"This is just ridiculous. I never thought as an economist I would have to spend so much time doing political analysis."

    - Diane Swonk, chief economist at Mesirow Financial

    Mid November 2011

Re-organized and re-wrote some forum rules and added in my own personal thoughts as to how a debate should flow.

Added in "tactical rules" to make clear what is talking about a comment and what is talking about the person making the comment.

    Made several changes.

    (1) What I would call "the JL95 insert": any person who cannot accept their comment being called dishonest or a lie should not join this forum.

    (2) A second change: any person who talks about they will leave the forum under some condition or offers an ultimatum to a moderator will be banned immediately. This is a breach of the forum rules.

    (3) Any response to a moderator's public comment on a rule violation MUST be made on a separate thread on the Complaints Forum. If a person replies with both political comments AND claims of how their comment is not a rules violation, the comment will be copied, then deleted and the copy placed on a special thread in the Dump Forum. The member will have the privilege of going back and making those comments the right way.
