Surely for a $40million shortfall, there are other places to get this amount without laying off the working class.

And what is your suggestion for cutting so little amount of shortfall?
Teachers aren't working class imo... they're tweeners that are milking their local taxpayers via a government mandated education system. ;) What was our current mandated education system an answer too? Was it WWI... WWII... WWI ushered in the "income tax system" if I recall correctly but it might have been WWII? And then of course the unions got their thumbs in the pie then... I'm sure those teachers worked in substandard conditions and far too many hours. Yeh... right, another one of those peeing' down someone's back and saying its raining out.
I'm waiting to see if anyone follows the east coast senators advice by going into the streets and getting a little bloody? It isn't hard to figure out whom is subsidizing his finances... probably the same group is subsidizing the WI Dem senators that have been hiding out. I wonder if they will report any of it as "income"... and how much WI residents will "also" have to pickup for their runaway tabs?
Rhode Island simply avoided all the pomp and circumstance publicity... their governor is a Dem and he's the one letting them go. Seems like he's thought long and hard about it, he lives in the real world not make believe.
