I'm just going to copy-paste the overview of this movie which I got from the site I heard about this movie from:

This overlooked, low-budget sci-fi gem proves the old adage that less is more. Shot for a reported $15,000 and devoid of flashy special effects or a marquis name, 'Monsters' had to make do instead with a solid story; it documents a romance that blossoms in a Mexico "infected" by (usually unseen) giant squid-like aliens. In the process, like 'District 9' before it, the film provides a neat allegory about a thorny real-world subject (in this case, immigration).

The story is solid and I guess you have to give the movie props for doing as much as it did for practically free (which is what $15,000 on a movie budget is). The movie had some political commentary. This guy thought the monsters were illegal immigrants. I guess he's probably right. I thought they symbolized the drug cartel. It makes a lot more sense that they would be illegal immigrants though.

That is a fairly BS political position, that illegal immigrants are a force of nature that can't be stopped. One of the lines of the movie was straight out of a GOP debate where Ron Paul made an idiotic comment about how the border fence keeps you in and makes you a prisoner.

I didn't like the movie to be honest. I love sci-fi and aliens and I don't know if there was ever a good look at the aliens. The movie reminded me of the movie Cloverfield, which was also a disappointment. I don't recommend this movie.

Score: 6.5/10
