Did Obama do the right thing w/ Afghanistan Troop Draw Down?

Obama said 10,000 will be out the end of this year and 33,000 will be out by the end of next year I believe. This goes against the advice of General Petraeus, Defense Secretary Gates and Joint Staff Chief Admiral Mike Mullen. I think on the level of what the nation needs, it was a mistake, however on the political level it was probably something pretty important for Obama to do heading into an election year. The majority of the American people want the troops withdrawn and with the economy in trouble, Obama is in a bad position to resist that call.
